State of Membership given by Ron Levett, three new members. Alan Kirk, Keith & Linda Sutton.

John Hide resigned

Membership now 61.

Treasurer's Report.  Flyle Hussain reported we now have a balance of £411.82 in the Branch Account following payment of Secretary's Expenses of £25 and Membership Fees of £516 to HQ.

The Poppy Appeal. John Burton reported the sum collected was £3,500.12 (£3,465.72 last year).

Annual Conference:  The merits of sending a delegate to the Annual Conference were debated and it was decided that John Burton should attend, fully financed by the Branch.

Remembrance Parades - We paraded in the village square on 11th November and again on Sunday 13th November  for the Remembrance Service.  Both occasions were well attended, with the Standard being carried by Bob Peedle and the Last Post and Reveille being sounded by Chris Goodchild.

The presence of the school children from Alfriston Primary School at the Remembrance Day Parade was applauded and a letter was sent to the School thanking them and invited them to make it an annual event, possibly including their presence at the Remembrance Day Service at the parish church.

Only two of the tickets of the Royal Albert Hall event were taken up, due to travelling problems.  Some dissatisfaction was expressed with regard to Bob Peedle's treatment as our Standard Bearer.  Various members had written to HQ regarding this matter but none had received a response, apart from an initial postcard acknowledgement.  John Burton will bring this matter up at the next Group 8 Meeting and County Conference.

Diamond Jubilee Lunch:  Chris Goodchild has agreed to organise the usual spring lunch, which this year will be called the Royal British Legion Diamond Jubilee Lunch. Probable date will be around 18th May 2012, at the Star Inn, depending on availability of the restaurant.

National Bowling Association:  Malcolm Mazey reported we continue to be members of the Association and the Couty is very appreciative of Alfriston & District's contribution.  Any interested members should contact Malcolm.

The Next Meeting will be on MONDAY the 2nd of April 2012 at The Star Inn Alfriston at 7.30pm.

SeahavenFM goes live on 96.3FM next Sunday (it is sending out test broadcasts at present), as well as on line (www.seahavenfm.com ) and my next FORCES ON PARADE will go out live on air as well as on line between 6 and 7pm on Sunday 16th January. Sunday 9th is the on air launch day and there will not be the usual programmes for that day which is why my next one will be on the 16th.

I have tried reception of 96.3fm around the district and of course it reaches its target area, Seaford, Newhaven, Peacehaven and Lewes and along the Ouse Valley fine. In Alfriston however, reception is patchy, in some places loud and clear and in others no reception at all - rather like mobile phone use in the Village. It comes over very clear in some unusual places, such as along the A27 between Polegate and Drusillas!

I am also taking bookings for guests on the show so if any branch member would care to join me one Sunday evening to talk about their naval, military or airforce experiences then I will be delighted to hear from them.

SeahavenFM is the new Community Radio station and will carry news and items of interest to the local community.

ARMED FORCES DAY - Seaford Town is already planning this year's Armed Forces day, Saturday 25th June and we believe we will be the only such event in the Lewes District, although we have not yet heard from other towns. All our members are invited to join in, which will probably start with a parade of veterans and local cadet forces at midday from the Martello Tower on the sea front. I am on the committee organising the event so will be delighted to hear from anyone interested in supporting the day.

If this information can reach our members, that will be delightful.

Happy New Year to you,

All the best

Bob Peedle
